Mandy’s wealth of experience includes working in a variety of settings as a mental health nurse for 15 years, and also for the past 14 years, as a carer for her son.
Later in her career, Mandy became an Adult Education Tutor, running support groups in colleges for people with mental health difficulties. She set up many of these groups herself, after consulting with mental health service users to find out what kind of support they felt they needed. One particularly effective group in Leicester, The Next Step Group at Wreake Valley College, provided training in work skills, building confidence, craft therapy and a range of life skills.
Mandy successfully established a variety of support groups within the community, by co-designing them with service-users. She also went on to become a qualified adult tutor trainer.
A team player who passionately believes in Co-Production, she has served as a Patient/Public Volunteer on a Clinical Reference Group, championing the voice of patients and carers.
Mandy is also a published writer; her portfolio includes articles about coming to terms with her son’s diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis.
