Jean is director and founding member of Talking Health, a network of independent freelance consultants, organisations and volunteer individuals, supportive of the development of integrated self-care and self-management for people living with long-term conditions and the health and social care professionals who support them.
She supports adults with particular needs to believe that what they do, will make a difference, and to realise the potential within themselves to make their own and others’ lives more effective, despite their social, economic or health needs.
Jean has experience of both living with a long-term condition and caring for someone with a long-term condition. As a teenager, she was diagnosed with Still’s disease and due to the inflammatory nature of the condition she has experienced the need to use a walking stick, wheelchair and at times unable to walk.
At the age of eight, she began to care for her mother, who lived with multiple sclerosis and lasted until she was 18, while looking after her three siblings. As an adult, Jean cared for her elderly father for the last 12 years of his life.
